In March of the 2005, an Associated Press report was widely circulated that the Ontario Ministry of Culture was investigating the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society [GLSHS] for an unlicensed dive to the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

“Earlier this year, the Ontario Ministry of Culture warned the director of the Great Lakes Shipwrecks Museum on Whitefish Point near the sinking site to stop all dives to the Fitzgerald. They admitted to an unlicensed dive in 2002.”
